Frequently Asked Questions
Who do you work with?
We work primarily with startups that have 1 to 10 engineers and a CTO / technical cofounder.
What does your process look like?
We typically start off with a 15 minute introductory call. During this call, we’ll introduce ourselves and discuss your startup’s needs. We’ll evaluate whether your startup is a good fit for us and, if not, make suggestions for alternatives.
Afterward, we will follow up and do an onboarding call (typically 1 hour) where we will discuss scope and the particulars of the engagement.
Who do you not work with?
We do not work with companies which:
- do not have a technical co-founder or CTO;
- do not have existing customers;
- do not primarily offer a tech product, typically a web application, API or backend service;
- are not venture-backed / do not have substantial revenue / (or, if bootstrapped) do not have significant runway;
- are not located between UTC-8 (San Francisco) and UTC+1 (Berlin). If you’re not located in the US/Canada/EU/EEA, please discuss with us further.
Why do you limit the types of companies you work with?
We want the project we work on together to be a success. Often, the needs of an early-stage startup are ongoing and require a significant investment of time and effort. Therefore, we want to make sure the engagement makes sense from both sides.
Can you be my CTO?
No. Given the ongoing nature of a CTO in a tech company, we are not a good substitute for an actual CTO.
If you’re a non-technical founder, we recommend checking out Y Combinator’s Cofounder Matching platform. We also recommend reading Joel Spolsky’s “Smart and Gets Things Done”, which is described in this article by Joel.
